If you can go up to 50 or 60 grams of carbohydrate a day and still lose a little weight, you have a fairly low level of metabolic resistance. In all probability you weren't all that overweight, and staying permanently slim on Lifetime Maintenance will be a breeze for you. As you move through OWL you can experiment with adding healthy but higher-carbohydrate foods that most people cannot enjoy until Pre-Maintenance. But still be careful to add these foods slowly to prevent re-addiction and the emergence of cravings. If you're careful, and you find you don't go into a weight-gaining spiral, you may be able to have even an occasional potato and some wild rice.

Considering you're already consuming from one of the world's most luxurious nutritional plans, I predict a great deal of pleasurable eating ahead. But I do ask this question: If so little of your problem is metabolic, how did you become overweight in the first place? You should be on the lookout for a pattern of self-destructive behavior. It could be that that is a component of your weight problem. See Chapter 21 for more discussion of this possibility.
